Audition time!
Auditions for ‘The Rhythm of Life’ are 20th (7.40pm-9.40pm) & 22nd October (10.15am-4.40pm) at Christ the Redeemer Church Hall, Newmarket Road, CB5 8RS
To book an audition slot email auditions@festivalplayers.org . When booked in you’ll receive an audition form and directions to the venue.

What to prepare for the audition
The audition will be a 10 minute slot. You should prepare a song of around 3 minutes length from the Musical Theatre canon that shows off your voice to best effect, with sheet music for piano accompaniment of the song. The sheet music should ideally be loose leaf to make the pianist’s job easier. Please do not bring, or prepare to audition to, backing tracks.
Our choreographer would also like to take you through some basic movement. Please prepare the short and simple little routine that you can learn by studying the videos here

Joining the Cast
The panel are looking to cast around 16 for the company. You must be 16 or over on 1st September 2022 to be eligible, and we will ask you for a Society membership fee in order that you can perform with the company.

Rehearsals and Performances
Rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at Christ the Redeemer, starting 6th December.
With a break for Christmas, rehearsals will continue until mid February. You won’t be called for every rehearsal, but you are expected to attend every rehearsal for which you are called. The production team will take into account any other commitments you might have in order to create the most flexible and accommodating rehearsal schedule that they can.
The performances will be at venues around South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge. The nature of the Touring Show means that we won’t have the dates and venues fixed until the new year, but expect to perform on Fridays and Saturdays from mid-February to mid-March. We do not schedule rehearsals between performances.

The Show
A musical collection set within 4 scenes depicting significant life moments; Dating, a Job Interview, a Wedding and a Funeral. “The Rhythm of Life” presents a song list of modern and classic musical theatre hits that will take audiences on a poignant journey through the highs, lows and celebrations of life.
Because the songs are presented in cabaret style we can perform many pieces that are normally off limits for amateur shows, including those from the most famous current and classic West End and Broadway musicals. There is lots of flexibility both for context and arrangements, including gender-swapping, turning solos into ensemble pieces and vice-versa. This all comes with the very exciting challenge of performing the show in a different venue every time. It’s like having an opening night for every show!
