About the SHOW
This world-famous musical, with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, tells the story of Eva María Duarte de Perón, her rise from rural poverty to become the first lady of Argentina and her transformation into a national icon. The winner of 7 Tony Awards with songs including “A New Argentina”, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall”, “High Flying Adored” and “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”, the show has great parts for men and women across all ages, lots of ensemble involvement and, of course, a chance to play one the most iconic roles in musical theatre.
It is a show driven by Latin rhythms and the unstoppable dynamism of the descamisados of Buenos Aires, spending their nights dancing tango in the dark and seedy clubs and their days fighting for change and revolution in the streets. Contrasting with the privileged life of the Argentine upper classes – who are protected by the military elite and there remorseless grip on power.
Epic in it’s scope, ambition and stature, “Evita” was a ground-breaking musical when it made it’s debut in 1978. In the intervening years it has lost nothing of its power to move audiences and sweep them up into the whirlwind life and extraordinary story of one of the most charismatic figures of the late 20th Century.
Kirsty Smith will be directing. Paul Garner is MD and David Mallabone is co-choreographer.
The production will run from 30 May – 8 June at the ADC Theatre, Cambridge.
