Charity Dinner & Dance in aid of The Samaritans

dinner_poster

The Festival Players Charity Dinner and Dance takes place on Saturday 16 July at the Cambridge Union Society (behind the Round Church, near the ADC Theatre).

It will be a fantastic evening’s entertainment, with profits shared with The Samaritans.

The evening will begin with a drinks reception on the lawn outside the Union, followed by a three-course meal in the unique surroundings of the historic Debating Chamber.

While you enjoy your dessert, there will be an opportunity to bid in an auction of promises, led by TV’s David Palmer.

After dinner, we move to the Blue Room to dance the night away to the Festival Players Band, who will be playing tunes from the 60s to the present day.

Tickets for the event are £47.50 and can be purchased by emailing dinner@festivalplayers.org

Book your slot now for An Evening with Festival Players

An Evening with Festival Players
This year’s event will take place on Saturday 27 February at Cambridge University Press in the Hospitality Dining Room (where the recent Legally Blonde auditions and last year’s AGM were held).

For those new to the event, it’s a chance to ‘do a turn’ in front of a warm appreciative audience of fellow members – a song, a monologue, a sketch, a poem – whatever you feel like doing!

So, now is the time to confirm your participation. We have two accompanists lined up, but if you’d like to arrange your own, that’s fine too.

If you wish to perform, please email Michael Husband and let him know what you’re doing, who with (if appropriate), and whether you need a pianist. There will be optional rehearsals on both Friday evening (26th) and Saturday afternoon (27th), depending on which pianist you’re paired with. With that in mind, please let Michael know whether you are unavailable for either of those, as that will help him choose the most appropriate pianist for you.

If you just wish to come along and enjoy the evening as a supporter rather than a performer, please also let Michael know. There will be an ‘on the door’ charge (tbc) for all.

Finally, it’s a ‘bring a sharing dish’ event – so whether performer or supporter, please liaise with Michael on what you’ll bring with you.

Tickets are now on sale for Festival Players next show, Return to the Forbidden Planet, at Comberton Village College, 13-16 January (incl. Saturday Matinee).

Come aboard the starship ‘Albatross’ and join us in an interstellar rock n’ roll adventure! Your crew of highly trained space cadets are ready to whisk you across the galaxy whilst performing a host of cosmic classics by Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, James Brown, Nina Simone and many more.*

Bob Carlton’s award winning musical is a bizarre and unique blend of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ (plus lots of bits from his other plays), iconic music of the 50’s and 60’s and the Sci-Fi cult classic film ‘The Forbidden Planet’. It might sound illogical, captain, but the result is an evening’s entertainment of meteoric proportions.

Will the brave Captain Tempest and his crew unravel the mystery of Planet D’Illyria? Why are the mad Doctor Prospero and his beautiful daughter Miranda the only inhabitants? What secret is the ship’s science officer hiding? Can a robot do the twist? All these questions and more are answered in the next thrilling episode of “Return to the Forbidden Planet”!

*Polarity Reversal may occur during performance!
